  6. Country Description:  Singapore is a small, highly developed parliamentary
  7. democracy.  Tourist facilities are modern and widely available.
  8.  
  9. Entry Requirements:  Passports and onward/return tickets are required. Visas
  10. are not required for tourist/business stays of up to two weeks.  For more

  14. Medical Facilities:  Medical facilities and services are good and widely
  15. available in Singapore.  Doctors and hospitals may expect immediate cash
  16. payment for health services.  U.S. medical insurance is not always valid
  17. outside the United States.  Supplemental medical insurance with specific
  18. overseas coverage has proved useful.  The international travelers hotline at
  19. the Centers for Disease Control can be reached at (404) 332-4559 for
  20. additional useful health information.

  22. Information on Crime:  Major crimes against tourists are uncommon. Petty
  23. crimes such as pickpocketing do occur in tourist areas.  The loss or theft
  24. abroad of a U.S. passport should be reported immediately to the local
  25. police, and the U.S. Embassy.  Useful information on guarding valuables and
  26. protecting personal security while traveling abroad is provided in the
  27. Department of State pamphlet "A Safe Trip Abroad."  It is available from the
  28. Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington,
  29. D.C. 20402.

  31. Drug Penalties:  Travelers are subject to the laws and legal practices of
  32. the country in which they travel.  Penalties for possession, use, or
  33. trafficking in illegal drugs are strict, and convicted offenders can expect
  34. jail sentences and fines.  Singapore has a mandatory death penalty for many
  35. narcotics offenses.

  38. information on travel and security within the country.
